my favorite movie of 1979:

Manhattan

(Woody Allen, Diane Keaton, Mariel Hemingway, Michael Murphy, Meryl Streep. Directed by Allen.)

This is exactly the kind of movie I love: a dramedy that explores a few characters in a way that’s believable and relatable, and has no need for typical movie gimmicks like violence or magic. When I watch Manhattan, I feel like all the fakeness of other movies is being stripped away, and what we’re left with is more exciting: relationships, conversations, concerts, museums, restaurants, or just walking down the street — the pure stuff of everyday life, in “a city that exists in black and white, and pulsates to the great tunes of George Gershwin.”

You are so self-righteous. … We’re just people, you know? You think you’re God!

I gotta model myself after someone.
